Gap House came into being as a rebellious and intelligent response to a narrow plot.It is squeezed between imposing party walls and is the lowest-rise building in the area. Since it was impossible to expand outwards, the house folds in on itself, opening up to its interior and the sky. The typical central courtyard is reinterpreted as two longitudinal cracks—gaps—alongside each party wall, which afford light, ventilation and separation, and provide the house with four façades and a unique identity in the centre of Barcelona.
